Countdown to Fascism. Sad, but true.

fas·cism  (fāsh'ĭz'əm)
n.   often Fascism
  1. A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic controls, suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism.
But you've got nothing to hide do you? You're not for the terrorists are you?

Those questions are an appeal to emotional patriotism, i.e., nationalism. They are based on a false premise. Don't ever be willing to live in a surveilance society, which is coming. It is not a mark of a free society.

I'd like you to meet Alex Jones. He is a syndicated radio journalist based out of Austin, TX. Jones also does many documentary type films which try to expose what is referred to as the "New World Order" and their plan for ultimate one world government. Many consider him a nut and therefore reject everything he has to say on any topic whatsoever. They do so because he is considered a "conspiracy theorist."

I have been watching numerous DVD's of him and have been reading several articles by and about him. I must say it takes some getting used to if you resonate with mainstream society and always accept the status quo. I have come to really enjoy his works because, even though I often question the validity of his conclusions, he exposes verifiable facts that are often convienantly forgotten by the modern world. In a sense he helps balance the BS that everyone knows the government feeds them. So while I do not share completely in his ideology, mainly because much of it I have not studied, I do enjoy how he asks pointed questions which demand an answer.

And now that I've introduced you, faithful reader, I submit his websites unto you for your browsing pleasure:

www.prisonplanet.com
www.infowars.com

And if you've got 2hrs and 24 minutes you may watch what I am watching right now: 9/11: The Road to Tyranny free on google video. He prefers you to buy his DVDs, but puts them up online for free anyways because he feels their information to be so pressing.

Haha. My friend Chris and I are on FoxNews.com in a photo essay:

In addition to this we were also interviewed on Camera by the local NBC affiliate in DC. Can't find that video though.

Washington D.C. Anti-War Rally Report:

Warning: Image Heavy = Dial-Up Hell

Prologue to the Protest:

The troupe consisted of myself, Chris, John, and Shawn with a depature time from Louisville at 1600 hrs. All were high spirited and pumped for the journey. It was our first time participating in something of this magnatude and who could sleep? We greatly anticipated entering a city we both love and hate, to call for an end to this illegal war, and to take in the history of that great city.

After a long drive we finally pulled into DC at 0230. Having to use the bathroom and all of us decidedly not tired we march ourselves into the Four Seasons hotel pretending to be guests and used their plush bathrooms to bathe and clean up in their sinks. Afterwards we headed onto Pennsylvania Ave. Along the way I was hit on pretty hard by a drunk french woman--attractive too. "Were you in X earlier this evening, I served your drinks." Being an ass and thinking this funny I replied, "Yes, of course; how are you?" (big lie, lol). The convorsation ensued and for the sake of berevity I will end it here. The group got a kick out of the exchange.

We march 15 blocks to the front gates of the White House and met a young Secret Service agent named Chavez. He was duly impressed by my ability to recognize the type of his gun by merely the handle. We entertained each other trading stories for about 40 minutes and he explained many of the things we might want to know about Washington. The White House is much smaller than what one would think.

To shorten the story Chris and Shawn return for the car and John and I press on at 0330 to explore the mall while they do so and will meet at the entrance to the Lincoln Memorial. John and I explore the grounds of the Washington Monument, the WWII memorial, and Lincoln. The WWII memorial is quite spectacular and moving if one considers it. Lincoln, at least for me, was jaded by the fact that I consider him America's first dictator and over-thrower of Liberty when the states rightfully seceded. His second innagural address on the wall of the monument in it's entirety and is really good even so.

They picked us up and we drove around looking for food and a place to sleep. Failing this and having driven for hours we park illegally many, many blocks from the White House and they plan to sleep until 0700. I reject this proposition as I was indudibly psyched about being in the Capital and walked back to the White House for some pre-protest exploration.

When I got back to the White House dawn was upon us and Chavez was gone. The secret service had also erected a double barrier and was starting to place more guards in the area. My goal was to blindly find the Archives as I headed toward the Congress. I found the Archives which were closed until 10 (now 0700 or so) and discovered a line forming at the Congress for free tours. I happened to get the last ticket for the very first tour.

Needless to say Congress was amazing. The inside is quite beautiful and standing in the halls where greats like Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, John Adams (both of em), et al have been was very pleasing and also made me feel incredibly small.

By the time I left there having discussed history with my guide and also with a lady watching the room which housed the first Supreme Court I left heading for the Archives. Along the way I decided I better get back and find my crew for the protest.

The Protest Begins:

Arriving back I find that many thousands have arrived out of nowhere and the speeches were going on. Many spoke including Cindy Sheehan, Ralph Nader, etc. Many of them were very good speeches. I could not find my group for the longest time and decided to pick up a sign and show solidarity with the message.

There were many different kinds of people there: Republicans, Democrats, Anarchists', Communists (usually teenagers 15 years old + who have no real idea about the impact of such a system), Ron Paul supporters, 9/11 truth guys, religious types, muslims/palestinians, Iranians, students, etc. Here are some pics of various signs I felt represented various groups whether I agreed with them or not. The majority held up two standard signs ("Impeach Bush for High Crimes" or yellow "Stop the War" signs). Here:

So there is a representation of signs. I'm a big fan of the last one and the one about us being marketed terror. It's definitely a threat but has been widely overblown by the media and this Administration.

The March on Congress:

At about 1300
we begin our march on the house. It was a very, very, very, uber long parade! Estimates range anywhere from 15-100,000 people. No one is totally positive on the number. All agree it was the largest of the war. To be sure there were at least 20,000 there. We spanned 4 lanes of traffic wide and at least 7 city blocks.

Marching to a beat of drums the crowd chanted many things:

"WHAT DOES DEMOCRACY LOOK LIKE? THIS IS WHAT DEMOCRACY LOOKS LIKE"

"WE DON'T WANT YOUR FUCKIN' WAR!"

"WHAT DO WE WANT? 'PEACE!' WHEN DO WE WANT IT? 'NOW!'

"STOP THE WAR"

"WHOSE STREETS? 'OUR STREETS!'"

etc.

Fox News was there on the ground and one in particular was a real jerk. While interviewing a man about why he was against the war, the reporter cut him off and started to swear at him and deride him. I was watching it and it pissed me off royally. The result: "FOX NEWS SUCKS! FOX NEWS..." lol.

The Gathering of Eagles

After many blocks of protesting we encounter a counter-protest group known as the "Gathering of Eagles." They are pro-war, pro-Bush. There were a lot of them, but not that many when compared to the anti-war crowd. They spanned 3 or 4 blocks half way to the Capital and were 2-3 deep. This is where I did most of my yelling to the point of losing my voice and almost throwing up.

They held signs up that read: Traitors!, Support the Troops, Safe Since 9/11, You're all Jihadi's! etc.

To be honest and simply reporting from a nice human being standpoint they're number comprised many ass holes. To be sure it was a heated time when the two passed each other, but the agression they showed was incredible. I wish I would have put my camera on video mode and recorded it all. Mostly old men, they support war no matter what and it is unpatriotic to dissent.

Want to know what I yelled? I yelled "Support the Constitution! Stop Fighting Undeclared Wars!!" It was definitely not what they were expecting to hear and when I said that they often paused and blinked. It was really fascinating. I mostly got the finger or verbose "Fuck you's" but some wanted to talk about it and so I would stop and discuss. Some would say "You never read the constitution!" and others "we did declare war." It often shut them up when I showed them where Ron Paul tried to force Congress to declare war, taking the words from WWII, and Congress rejecting it's power to declare war. I told an old man wearing a WWII hat (presumably he served) that we declared war in WWII and since then Congress has failed in it's duties capitulating to the executive branch. His response: "I don't care!"

An Irate Eagle and a Disgrace to the Species:

Because I was feeling physically sick having encountered these people I moved ahead of them by a block and sat down. While sitting down trying not to vomit and the parade rapidly passing me an eagle began sexually harassing two young ladies who were walking on the sidewalk carrying anti-war signs. I won't repeat everything but it began. "Hey pretty Jihadi bitches!"

I don't like stuff like this and even though I felt like crap I was able to lure him to me. "Hey buddy! You're pretty rude and tasteless saying those things, come talk to me about the Constitutionality of this war." That drew him right over. I started to talk to him but when I pressed him for a logical answer he decided to insult me calling me all sorts of hateful things. I told him I wanted to seriously discuss the issue and said to him, "Why are you insulting me? Do you hear me calling you names or yelling at you? Do you not have anything real to say?" He didn't stop and instead of leaving he started to physically push me. He stopped when I made it clear I wouldn't tolerate his use of force and would respond to defend myself if he wanted to take it further. He stopped and told me he was going to send the troops to my home so they can kill me. As he walked away I said to him, "Patriotism is not blind emotionalism!"

I was certainly unimpressed by this lot in their entirety. The vast majority of anti-war types were not as reprehensible in their actions as these folks were. There were words and bad apples from both groups to be sure, but by and large an anti-war protest is pretty meek in the face of such things as one would think and experience. I did not hear the anti-war protestors engage in ad hominem type attacks similar or to the degree as to what was launched by the irate eagles. I was embdedded inbetween thousands of them and would have heard it. Again I am not saying it didn't happen, but it was not my experience.

The Die-In

I could not get to the front of the line to see everything it was so packed. But one of our group signed up to work the event and was there. The capital police appeared in riot gear and had shields to hold the crowd back and arrested some 200 people. A number of them were pepper sprayed and all of them had automatic weapons pointed at them.

The crowd convinced a uniformed Capital Hill officer to leave his post by arguing that he cannot do this to Americans for x, y, and z reasons. He apologized to the crowd who then began to chant his name as he walked away. The crowd was quite proud of him. A friend of mine which I made there was assaulted by the police force without due cause. She was not one of the ones scheduled to jump the barricade but was dragged out of the crowd and given a lickin'.

But you can watch many angles of the die-in on youtube. I was not on the steps of the Congress when it happened. I believe what John reported to me about it and there is more to tell, but I am exhausted and need to sleep. So we'll probably call this part 1 and conclude with part 2 tomorrow.
